Sibbel wins it for Westmont

With the men’s tennis match against San Diego Christian all tied up at 4-4, Philipp Sibbel played in a third and deciding set in his number two singles matchup against Aliaksandr Meluik, with the winner clinching the victory for his respective team. Despite losing the first set 2-6, Sibbel responded to win the final two sets 6-3 and earn Westmont its third consecutive victory.
With the win, Westmont clinched second place in the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) and will have the #2 seed in the GSAC Tournament, which begins on Tues. Apr. 18. Because of their second seed, the Warriors will have a bye in the first round and will take on the winner of San Diego Christian and Biola in the semifinals.
The Westmont men will host UC Riverside on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Warriors’ final tuneup before the GSAC Tournament.
The Westmont women were not as fortunate, losing 1-8 to San Diego Christian, GSAC Champions in women’s tennis. The Warriors tied with Biola for third in the GSAC and will take on Lewis-Clark State in the first round of the GSAC Tournament.
