Last Wednesday was the 23rd Annual Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner at the Fess Parker DoubleTree Resort, which honored one student-athlete from each of the Westmont varsity athletic teams for their academic and athletic achievements.
The program for this year’s event states that “All Golden Eagle recipients possess at least sophomore class status at Westmont College, maintain at least a 3.20-grade point average overall and have the nomination and support of their coaches.” Not only is Westmont proud of these individuals but it also believes “they are strong representatives of Christ and have therefore achieved our highest aspirations.”
The recipients of the Golden Eagle awards were: Jacob Grant (men’s cross country), Kelly Collins (Women’s Cross Country), Joseph Miller (Men’s Track and Field), Olivia Wood (Women’s Track and Field), Andrew Devian (Baseball), Libby Dahlberg (Women’s Volleyball), Tim Heiduk (Men’s Soccer), Sophie Fuller (Women’s Soccer), Stefan Inouye (Men’s Basketball), Lauren McCoy (Women’s Basketball), Tommy Nightingale (Men’s Tennis) and Isabel Lee (Women’s Tennis).
Each athlete was allowed to bring two guests and a faculty member to the banquet as a courtesy of the event’s sponsors, Gerd and Peter Jordano.
The Master of Ceremonies was Westmont Women’s Basketball Head Coach, Kirsten Moore. Coach Moore introduced the respective coaches of each team, then the coaches would give a brief speech about their athlete, culminating with the athlete saying a few words of thanks to their peers and mentors for aiding them in this achievement.
The honorees were also honored in chapel on Wednesday during the student awards with a slideshow made by Westmont’s Instructor in Photography, Brad Elliott.
