On Saturday, the men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in The Master’s University Cross Country Invitational, with both teams performing better than they did at UC Riverside two weeks ago.

With a two-week break to evaluate their previous performance, every runner finished faster than they did two weeks ago. Race conditions were also ideal with the temperatures being brisk in the 60s.

The men’s team had a strong showing at their second meet of the season. They placed 11th out of 28 teams with 299 points and a top five total time of 2:13:24.6. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the 8k race with 46 points, followed by The Master’s in second, and UCLA taking third.

Team captain Michael Oldach won the race and set a new course record in a time of 24.51.8. He was followed by teammates Danny Rubin in 24th, Patrick Malberg in 95th, Craig Odenwald in 135th, and John Kiser in 144th.

The team finished second out of five GSAC teams. It was a good performance, but the team is still working towards beating the defending GSAC champion, The Master’s, as well as getting ranked in the NAIA Top-25 poll.

On the women’s side, the team placed 15th out of 30 teams with 442 points and a top five total time of 1:39:11.1. Pomona Pitzer won the race with 73 points, followed by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in second, and UCLA coming in third.

Freshman Madden Hundley was the Warriors’ first finisher running the 5k in a time of 18:59.4. Following her were team captains Amanda Colacchia in 88th and Sarah Claud in 94th. Emma Lottman placed 135th and Bethany Bodine finished in 175th to round out the top five.

The team finished just six points away from The Master’s and are aiming to beat their conference rivals at the next meet. They placed third out of the five GSAC teams that competed.

Preparing for the GSAC Championships, the Warriors will compete next at the Vanguard Invitational in Orange on Oct. 14 for this year’s conference meet.
