With preseason play rapidly coming to a close, the Westmont golf team is now poised for a momentous showdown at Quail Lodge, their path illuminated by the PacWest Team of the Week Award as a testament to their excellence.
Proudly standing our ground on Westmont’s home turf, the men’s team placed first at the Sandpiper Invitational with the aid of Peyton Hendricks’ first place performance. The Warriors left their mark at the tournament, outshining the second place Academy of Art by a notable seven strokes.
Hendricks posted a four under par 140 for 36 holes, rightfully claiming his title as the Pacwest golfer of the week. The positive momentum persisted as Andrew Knight finished fourth with a two over 146, shooting a 73 for both days of the tournament.
The Women’s Golf program continues to make a resounding impact after finishing fifth overall. The win was exemplified by the impressive debut of Hannah Camera, who clinched a remarkable sixth place overall in her inaugural year with the team.
“Hannah has been really consistent shooting the longest out of the women’s,” said Sydnee Magpoc, a second year on Westmont golf. “This is especially exciting in a sport like golf, where you have to stay focused throughout intense six to seven hour days, in a competition setting. She is truly a great addition to the team!”
Camera’s early set success landed her nine over 153, serving as a tantalizing preview of what the upcoming spring season may hold for her.
“We are just trying to stay ahead of the win and plan on keeping moving forward” stated second year golf athlete Cooper Allen. “The team is as close as it gets. Everyone is playing their role well and improving as the season goes on.”
With only one more tournament left before spring league, Cooper’s sentiments echo the golf squad’s strategic mindset as they prepare for the crucial weeks leading up to their Pacific Coast Highway Fall Invitational at Quail Lodge.
