Westmont College basketball season is reaching its conclusion for the 2023-2024 athletic season. From winning high-stake games at home, to facing trials and adversity on the road, there is resilience to take note of in our Warriors.
Women’s basketball has completed a season of tremendous plasticity and growth. Currently 4-8 in their conference, we’ve seen their team extensively push themselves to their limit each and every game. Especially since Westmont College’s transition from NAIA Division III to NCAA Division II athletics, the 2023-2024 athletic season has been about learning the ropes and growing as a team.
Fourth-year captain Laila Saenz spoke about how sitting out this season gave her a different perspective as she saw the highs and lows of every part of their season. “It’s been tough navigating injuries, a new team, and a new conference, but the most important thing is that we keep fighting together and stay unified.”
Men’s basketball also had a season of new experiences. With an almost totally new completed roster, and difficult injuries, this season was a test of adversity for them. Despite currently 3-9 in conference, the team’s determination and unity is still unwavering.
Senior Amir Davis, talked about how the injuries and new roster impacted their season. “We’ve dealt with a lot as a team together, we’re just learning to push through and do our best for the rest of the season.”
Westmont Basketball has had a season of highs and lows, but if one thing is for sure it’s that we have some battle-tested teams who are hungry to win. Come support both the men and women’s team against University of Hawaii at Hilo at home on February 24, Go Warriors!
