Apple TV’s new show “Ted Lasso” was the Thanksgiving binge we didn’t know we needed. The unique pairing of comedy, soccer, an outstanding cast, and the insight into positive coaching and the complex team dynamics is what makes “Ted Lasso” a surprisingly captivating and compelling watch.

This characterization is truly what makes him so lovable — Lasso is the glue that holds the team together, despite his total inexperience with coaching soccer.”

“Ted Lasso” is an American sitcom written by Bill Lawrence, Jason Sudeikis, Joe Kelly and Brendan Hunt that follows American former college football coach Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, who is hired to coach an English Premier League soccer team, AFC Richmond.Lasso teams up with fellow American coach Beard, played by Brendan Hunt, to portray a humorous and heartwarming venture at coaching an entirely new sport in a country of “football fanatics.” Despite his obscure and controversial coaching methods, Lasso’s kindness and can-do attitude win the hearts of his players, as well as viewers.

While this premise may come across as cheesy or outdated, the show is not all goals and laughs. “Ted Lasso” confronts the complicated past of each character — whether it be a superstar with a poor attitude dealing with immense pressure from his father, a former champion at the end of his career, or a staff member with severe confidence issues — with the empowerment and positivity the team needs to rise up.

All the while, Lasso continues to wrestle with his own story, from his distaste for tea in England to his ongoing divorce. While he leads a trying team, his cheesy antics and unique metaphors humanize him in a distinct way. This characterization is truly what makes him so lovable — Lasso is the glue that holds the team together, despite his total inexperience with coaching soccer.

With its first season only ten episodes long, “Ted Lasso” is the binge that every person needs right now. Whether you’ve watched many times or are not yet an AFC Richmond fan, this show will surely tug at your heartstrings.
