The Westmont men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Vanguard Invitational at Irvine Regional Park on Saturday, giving the teams a chance to run on the same
course as the GSAC Championship.

In the men’s race, Westmont placed fifth out of 13 teams. The Warriors placed third out of five GSAC teams that competed. Michael Oldach led the team, placing sixth in a time of 24:41. He was followed by Danny Rubin in ninth (25:34), Jason Peterson in 26th (26:19), Craig Odenwald in 48th (26:59), and Patrick Malberg in 57th (27:27) to round out the top-five score. The team raced well, but are still looking to reduce their team spread.

The women also had a good performance. The team placed fourth out of 13 teams and second out of five GSAC teams. The Warriors were led by Madden Hundley, who came in 10th with a time of 18:41. Following her was Amanda Colacchia in 15th (18:47), Callie Guthrie in 34th (19:38), Sarah Claud in 43rd (20:03), and Dana Hjelm in 49th (20:20). They had a great performance, beating conference rival The Master’s.

Next week, the team will travel up to Rocklin to compete at the Warrior Invitational hosted by William Jessup. This will be the final tune-up race before the conference meet in November.
