What to wear to Spring Formal

Emily Wheeler, Staff Writer

The end of the year is upon us, which means one thing: Spring Formal. Aka the last time — or the first time — your classmates will see you wearing something other than sweats. For many of us, this year’s formal is like the prom we never got, so it’s time to dress up. Luckily, I’m here to help. Here are my suggestions:

The emerald hourglass

When I think of a formal event, this exact dress pops into my mind. The dazzling hourglass shape dress flatters any body type. The dark green sequins look cool and mysterious under dark lights. Emerald green is a gorgeous color on most skin tones. Walk in with this dress and you’ll look like a jewel.

The classy cut-out

Cut-outs, cut-outs, cut-outs! I love dresses like this — they’re simple, but show some skin. The bedazzled part draws a bit of extra attention and the halter neck ensures everything is secure, especially while you’re gettin’ down in the mosh pit. Plus, this shiny rose is especially luscious if you’ve been hitting the beach recently.

The Cinderella story

Close your eyes and imagine that scene from “A Cinderella Story” where Hilary Duff walks into the Halloween Ball and the music stops and everyone’s jaws drop. That could be you in this dress. It serves true Cinderella energy. We’ve all dreamt of that Cinderella moment. Why can’t Spring Formal be yours?

The one-shoulder wonder

Unpopular opinion: I stand by one-shoulder dresses. They have the secureness of two straps, but the classiness of a strapless dress. And can we talk about that slit? It’s fun to dance in and even more fun to show off! Wear this dress with your hair down, curled and middle part. Is the dress too simple for you? Not enough bling? Add some statement earrings and matching bling shoes and you’re ready to go.

The stylish strapless

Okay I almost didn’t show this dress because I wanted to wear it, but I want you to understand the energy this formal needs to bring, so here we are. A strapless dress and graceful updo is the epitome of formal. Add some dainty jewelry, and you’re sure to make heads turn.

I’m super excited to see what you have in store for this formal. Just show up as your best self, whatever that looks like. Dance the night away and make some sweet memories before finals and move-out!
