Swim update: Breaking records and taking names

Syd Burnama, Staff Writer

The Westmont College women’s swim team has been making waves this season, with multiple swimmers setting record-breaking times and the team overall working together with cohesion. The team just recently returned from the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) Championships, which took place from Feb. 8 through Feb. 11.

The team finished eighth overall with an impressive 486 points, making them the highest-scoring National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) team in the championship. The coaches and athletes were ecstatic about this achievement (and for good reason).

The team’s success at the PCSC Championships was the result of their hard work and dedication throughout the entire season. They competed against tough competition from NCAA Division one, two and three schools, as well as other NAIA schools. Despite this, the Westmont women’s swim team was able to hold their own and prove that they are a force to be reckoned with.

One of the standout swimmers of the season has been second-year Ella Chaisson, who set multiple program records this year, including the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07:26), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22:86) and at PCSC broke her own lifetime and program record in the 200-yard breaststroke (22:22:53), which earned her a spot on the podium at third place!

In addition to Chaisson’s impressive performances, many other swimmers on the team have also been setting personal bests and contributing to the team’s success. This includes second-year Olivia Garrison, who set a program record in the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.80) at the PCSC Championships, fourth-year Bailey Lemmon, who set a program record in the 100-yard freestyle (53.39), including the 50-yard freestyle at PCSC.

The team’s success this season can also be attributed to the leadership of their coach, including head coach Jill Jones Lin. Lin has played a crucial role in the team’s success, providing support and guidance to the swimmers throughout the season.

Looking ahead, the Westmont women’s swim team will continue to work hard and prepare for the upcoming NAIA National Championships, which will take place in March. The team has high hopes for the championship and is looking to make a splash on the national stage.

Overall, the Westmont College women’s swim team has had a fantastic season, with multiple swimmers setting record-breaking times and the team working together as a cohesive unit. Their success at the PCSC Championships — where they finished eighth overall and the highest-scoring NAIA team — is a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season. The coaches and team should be proud of their achievements and should continue to work hard as they prepare for the upcoming NAIA National Championships.
